Special screening of Our Croydon’s ‘Legacy’ film

Directed by Nina Mdwaba, Legacy is a short creative documentary film honouring the stories of the Caribbean Elders who took part in Talawa’s Our Croydon project in the summer of 2023.

“What is my Legacy?” has been a through line since the formation of the project which evolved into the creation of this short documentary film that includes stories told and untold, drawing upon archival mediums including music, image making and poetry.

Over 70 guests attended a special screening of Our Croydon project’s film Legacy. The screening was followed by a conversation and Q&A led by Our Croydon co curator/producer Lehni Lamide Davies featuring artist/filmmaker Nina Mdwaba and some of the Caribbean Elders who took part in the film.

During the Q&A, the Our Croydon Elders shared their stories that captured the essence of the community created together over the 10-week summer workshops. They also spoke of their pride in taking part in the film which provided a powerful platform for their experiences to be captured and shared as a lasting legacy of their involvement in the Our Croydon project.

Special screening of Our Croydon’s Legacy film & conversation with filmmaker Nina Mdwaba took place on Friday November 17th 2023 at Talawa Studio, Fairfield Halls, Croydon.
